Teach Your Children to Love Themselves Unconditionally

We all want to raise healthy, happy, gregarious, confident children. Remember, your child's sense of self-love is taught, it is not a "given." As parents, we are responsible for teaching our children to love themselves.

Learning to teach your children to express themselves and love themselves unconditionally takes time and effort, but it’s one of the most important things you can do for a child.

Here are tips for your children to love themselves unconditionally:

1.Acknowledge their strengths: Focus on what they are doing well instead of what they aren’t doing well. When you focus on the good, your child will feel good, and when people feel good, they do good.

2. Encourage their effort vs praising for their results: Support your child’s persistence along the way for the effort shown and acknowledge small successes. Doing this builds self-worth and self-esteem.

3. Never underestimate a good hug: Repeated studies show that physical affection leads to improved development in children. I believe that a simple hug will build a confident core in children.

4. Treat your child with respect: When we respect our children, they will respect themselves and feel like someone deserving of respect from others.

5. Family time must be a priority: Spend intentional, quality time with your children to show them their value. Show up at their events, coach their games, and attend their plays. Quality time is not simply being in the same room. Plan an activity and interact with them.
